Mission
The Korean American Bar
Association of Washington
(“KABA”) was established
with the objective of
fostering the exchange of
ideas and information among
and between KABA members and
other members of the legal
profession, the judiciary,
and the community.
One of KABA’s goals is to
encourage and promote the
professional growth of the
members of KABA and to
provide an opportunity for
fellowship among KABA
members.
Another goal is to provide
service to the general and
local community.
KABA aims to develop and
encourage cooperation with
other organizations of
minority attorneys and to
provide a vehicle and forum
for the unified expression
of opinions and positions by
KABA upon current social,
political, economic, legal,
or other matters or events
of concern to the members of
KABA.
Programs
Korean Pro Bono Legal
Clinics in King and Pierce
Counties
KABA was founded with the
purpose of serving the
community. KABA members
continue this community
service
legacy
by volunteering legal services to the Korean pro
bono clinics of King County
(Korean Community Counseling
Center) and Pierce County
(My Service Mind).
Joint Asian Judicial
Evaluations Committee
(JAJEC)
KABA is a charter
member of the JAJEC and in
2007, served as its chair
organization.
KABA members sit on the
JAJEC and evaluate, conduct
reference checks, and
interview candidates for any
Washington judicial position
and issue ratings for both
the Governor’s appointment
process and to the general
public for elections.
Continuing Legal Education,
Career, and Networking
Opportunities
KABA keeps its members
apprised of issues affecting
the Korean-American
community by providing
opportunities for members to
attend free CLE seminars.
Its members also connect at
networking events, including
the Annual Banquet and
Annual Golf Tournament.
Members also receive updates
on community events and job
opportunities through the
KABA email listserve.
Reaching Out to Local Law
Schools – Mentorship Program
and Annual Scholarship
KABA invests in the
future of the legal
community by maintaining
close relationships with
local law schools by
supporting student
associations and inviting
student liaisons to sit on
the Board of Directors.
KABA seeks to match law
students to practitioners in
its Mentorship Program and
annually awards a
scholarship to a first year
law student who has
demonstrated a commitment to
serving the Korean American
community.
Partnering with Bar
Organizations to Promote
Diversity in the Legal
Community
KABA is a strong supporter of
diversity throughout our
legal community and works
closely with other specialty
bar organizations to promote
diversity initiatives on a
statewide level.
Partnering with Community
Organizations to Promote the
Korean-American Community
KABA is a strong proponent of
its sister organizations in
the community to build,
support, and grow the Korean
American professional
community.
