MBA Annual Picnic

The 5th Annual Minority Bar Associations Summer Picnic takes place August 28th, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Seward Park. Join us as KABA and other Washington Minority Bar Associations get together with fellow attorneys, friends and family at Seward Park.

We also encourage everyone attending to sign up as a volunteer. Volunteer positions are available on the sign up sheet. Please contact Michelle Chen if you are interested in volunteering.

NWIRP Staff Attorney Position in Tacoma

NWIRP seeks a committed, Spanish-speaking bilingual attorney to work with the Legal Orientation Program (LOP) at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Washington. Under the LOP, which is funded by the Executive Office for Immigration Review and managed by the Vera Institute, private nonprofit agencies give detained individuals essential information about court procedures and available options for legal relief prior to their immigration hearing.

The Northwest Justice Project (NJP) Fellowship through Medical Legal Partnership for Children (MLPC)

The Northwest Justice Project (NJP) is hosting a one-year full-time Fellowship sponsored by Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps to provide legal assistance and representation to low-income families through a community-based Medical Legal Partnership for Children (MLPC). The Fellowship will support the delivery of free legal services to eligible low-income families who receive health care services through SeaMar, a community health clinic that primarily serves Spanish-speaking and immigrant families inWestern Washington. The Fellowship is for a Seattle based full-time attorney to work with NJP’s existing MLPC to address legal issues that impact the health status of SeaMar patients, including access to health care, insurance coverage, special education needs, housing conditions, and access to other benefits and services. The Fellow will also collaborate with the clinic based medical and social services managers, provide training to medical teams on legal needs and MLPC services, work with medical providers to identify policy developments that impact health status of SeaMar patients, help with data collection, and work with the MLPC team and advisory committee to promote the MLPC goals.  Based on Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps guidelines, the term of service will begin in September 2011 for one year.

Northwest Justice Project (NJP) Fellowship providing legal assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure

The Northwest Justice Project (NJP) is hosting a one-year full-time Fellowship sponsored by Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps to provide legal assistance and representation to homeowners facing foreclosure. The Fellowship will support the delivery of free legal services to eligible low-income homeowners statewide. The Fellowship is for a full-time attorney to work on home foreclosure prevention through loan modifications, mediation, and where appropriate, litigation to challenge foreclosures and other advocacy. The Fellow will help coordinate access to foreclosure-related legal services statewide and collaborate with the Washington State Bar Association sponsored Home Foreclosure Legal Aid Project.  Based on Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps guidelines, the term of service will begin in early September of 2011 for one year.
